In the last few days, on Facebook and elsewhere, Islam has been coming under attack by some Christians. They insist that Islam is a religion that breeds fanaticism. I feel it is relevant to point out that Born Againism - the core of the Pentecostal doctrine - is a breed of fanaticism which is no less virulent than the kind we see in some Muslims. The good thing about Born again fanatics - which I am ever so thankful for - is that while their Muslim partners are eager to put a knife to the neck of infidels instantly, they are a lot more patient. They prefer to wait till the end of this world before they cast the rest of us into a lake of fire where we are expected to burn and suffer forever and ever. The target of this vile and vindictive punishment include those who were brought up to worship other gods, those who cant keep the endless commandments of their nosy god, and those, who like my very self, got bored by the vanity of their praise-loving god. I had a chat with a friend who is, as they say, born again. He insisted that everyone who refuses to be like him must rot in the lake of fire. Interestingly he had grandparents who were muslims, so I asked him what will happen to them. He said theyll be cast into the sea of burning sulphur and brimstone. If this is not fanaticism, then what is? Well, I was quick to tell him that dem never born anybody well wey go cast my own grandparents inside fire. Their father!, No religion is free of these dangerous elements. Even among atheists, there are those who propagate so much hate. It is imperative for all of us to take this issue of religion or atheism less seriously. We should not teach our children the same garbage we were brought up with. Do yours and let others be. Let the gods decide who they want in heaven or hell, if there are any - Dr Jide Sowemimo
