In the last week, Ive watched video of a 12-year old African-American boy shot to death by a white police officer; an older black man shot to death by a white police officer because he had stabbed someone and was brandishing a knife; and now a video of a Palestinian leader, Ziad Abu Ein, as he lay dying after being assaulted by an Israeli soldier. Ive read and heard about torture techniques used by the U.S. government and choked over some of what was done. I am disgusted, not desensitized. All of these images are added to the images of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and all the protests all over the country showing solidarity with both unarmed African-Americans. Then there are the news reporters who find it perfectly appropriate to criticize basketball players and football players who show solidarity with the residents of Ferguson and Staten Island and the Bush administration apologists for torture. All I can say is Im SO grateful for all the protests -- glad to have participated in some -- and firmly believe its our only hope for positive change.
