In the mid 90s, I got to meet Casey Monahan once walk thru the check in at SXSW...Hes the Director of Texas Music Office for the Governors Mansion and I thought was the coolest job title in the world. A musicologist for the Lone Star State! Holy Crap! How Cool! 1990 Texas Music Office was the first government office ever created to promote a states music industry. I got to thank him for his work w/ Roky Ericksons collection of lyrics Openers II on Henry Rollins book label, 2.13.61 and All That May Do My Rhyme comeback LP for Trance Syndicate Records. Yes, I was a teenage Roky Erickson / The 13th Floor Elevators freak fan. Anyhow, long story short, tonight Im reminded of the life time of work that Monahan put into promotion music, art and culture in our state and while the The Oxford American magazine annual music issue Texas Edition isnt likely to feature the underbelly poetic Texas noise of lets say ....Houstons Rusted Shut... I am still very much so looking forward to seeing, reading and hearing the music featured in the issue and CD comp. Time to re-up my subscription. You should too and go see some live Texas music! oxfordamerican.org/pages/Texas/
