In the midst of so much negativity in the news, once again a young member of our community has given us yet another incredible reminder of the good that is out there. We received a letter from the father of this 15 year-old young man explaining his good deed. Here’s a sampling of the letter with some omissions and slight editing to protect his identity: “I send you today this donation to the Inland Northwest Honor Flight in the amount of $300.00. I wanted to take a second to explain the circumstances in which the donation came about. This donation is given on behalf of my son. He is an excellent student and athlete and is currently getting ready for the upcoming football season as a lineman. I have always given grade money to both my sons as incentive to, at least, be cognitive of where their grades are at. This year my son got $300.00 for straight As. As we were talking one day, out of nowhere, he said to me, “Dad, I have enough money. I don’t really need anything. I would like to give my grade money to Honor Flight. Those guys aren’t going to be around that much longer, and I’d like to help someone get to DC.” I wanted to go to one of your events where he could present it in person, because I felt the kid should be given credit for his unselfish act, but he wanted none of that. He just said, “I didn’t do this for recognition. I just wanted to help. Just mail the money in.” You have no idea the impact you’ve already had on so many, young man. When we say, “God bless America,” this is one of the many ways in which He does it.
