In the military, commanders hold their position for an average of 2 years before stepping down and letting another leader step in. This isnt a reflection of the commanders ability or worth- it keeps fresh blood and ideas coming in, and protects against leaders getting too comfortable/ complacent in their jobs. There is professional networking and career maneuvering to be had, sure, but the focus is Mission first, Soldier always. I heard a voting theory yesterday that mirrored this: If they are an incumbent, vote for the other candidate. Let new ideas and leadership see what they can do. Undertandably, politics is not as linear as the military, but it seems like an interesting idea. Or, same as the POTUS, all political positions have mandatory term limits. With that concept firmly in hand, congratulations to WV for taking that to the logical extreme and electing a state legislator whose first oportunity to vote was in her own race (she was 17 when she won the primary, so she is very recently 18). npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/11/05/361723735/a-win-in-west-virginia-makes-saira-blair-states-youngest-lawmaker
