In the name of ALLAH , the most gracious and the most merciful. The Purpose of Quran : Blessedness (barakah in Arabic) is a characteristic of the Quran, not the purpose of revelation. The purpose of revelation is to contemplate and act upon its verses. ALLAH Azza wa zaal says in Quran , We have made it easy to take lessons from the Quran: will anyone take heed? [54:17]... Almighty ALLAH says , [(It is) a Book We have revealed to you abounding in good that they may ponder over its verses, and that men of understanding may reflect.[Quran, 38:29] ALLAH Subhanahu wa tala said in another Ayah, “Do they not then think deeply (tadabbur) in the Quran, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)” ( Surah Muhammed verse 24) The misconception of using the Quran as a means of blessing in Muslims lives has many manifestations. Many Muslim families are eager to have their children read the Quran in Arabic once, only once, in their lifetime. Other Muslims print their Qurans in 30 separate parts so that they can recite it when someone dies.Another manifestation is that when some wealthy person dies, his family donates from their inheritance to print a million copies of pocket-size Surat Ya-Sin, so that they can get blessedness or barakah from those who recite from these copies. Some muslims do Quran khani to have barakh when they move into new homes . For some Quran , its only for there decoration, a well decorated verses next to the big giant LCD Plasma TV , it ceases to be a book of guidance and mercy, it becomes only as some sort of arabic calligraphy albeit Gods words, on display. It is already happening. Some of the above traits you find in masses who are highly educated and doing excellent at their professional lives but when it comes to the understanding the Quran, they pay no heed to reflect upon the verses in Quran but feel more happy in following the traditions and cultures . The same group of people will be having in-depth knowledge about political and current affairs . It breaks my heart. Those Muslims are misunderstanding the role of the Quran in their lives, and the message that is still waiting to be read. ALLAH THE MOST HIGH SAYS: “And the Messenger (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu alayhi wa sallam]) will say: O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qurân (neither listened to it nor acted on its laws and teachings).” [Surah Furqan (25:30)] These are really testing times and countless trials, tribulations, afflictions are befalling upon this Ummah as the Prophet (PBUH) had already informed us about this, over 1400 years before. There are many authentic ahadeeth of our beloved Prophet which has this phrase, “some people will recite the Quran but it will not exceed their throats and who will go out of (i.e. renounce) the religion (Islam) as an arrow passes through the game.” And in some narrations the word used in place of Quran is imaan (faith). Both mean the same here, because if Quraan does not exceed beyond their throat then how can faith (imaan) exceed and vice versa. This can only happens when the reader do not try to understand what he is reading, or/and not understanding it correctly in the light of sunnah, or/and not contemplating over the aayah of ALLAH, or/and not correctly implementing Deen of ALLAH upon himself. Hence, we must not read Quraan without giving due care for understanding it properly and implementing what we read. We should read Quran daily and read it with understanding, and should not desert it. We should understand and act on Quran in the light of Sunnah; in it lies our success. Jazak ALLAH Khair
