In the past people have thanked me for my service on Memorial Day. It always made me uncomfortable because this is a day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. But as I thought about it more, we should still thank our combat vets on this day. Not every death from war happens in combat. Sometimes the injuries come home with us. Maybe a kind word or gesture to those combat vets can help reduce the casualties back home after the wars.
