In the preface to Russells Skeptical Essays (a compilation), John Gray writes: Scientific inquiry depends on a belief in causation that cannot survive rational analysis. In short, science depends on faith. What do you make of this- particularly the latter claim? I do realize that Gray is mainly referring to the problem of induction a la Hume. Yet, can we still say that science depends on faith given our ability to (tentatively) verify or untangle causality a priori (e.g., with deduction and the like)?
