In the recently concluded Tuffy Williams Classic Swim Meet held in Vallejo this past weekend, Iona took home the top prize in five out of eight entered events. He was first in the 50 Freestyle (new record), 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Individual Medley, and 100 Individual Medley. He took second in both the 50 and 100 Butterfly and third in the 100 Freestyle. Most of the 11-12 year old boys have know each other from multiple years of competition with each other. The top boys know each other well as they always meet in the Junior Olympics, the Far Westerns, and by invitation only meets such as the Pacific Swimming All Stars. Some of them have become friends. Even the slower boys know the top kids because they relish the chance to compete with the fast ones. Over the years, Iona has been a consistent swimmer always landing in the finals. But there are swimmers that Iona has competed with over the years who are specialists in the butterfly or the backstroke, and have beaten him repeatedly. He has definitely improved his Breaststroke and Freestyle and has been dominant in the Individual Medley. Iona competed with one of those kids who have repeatedly beat him in the Fly and the Freestyle in this meet. He beat this kid in the 50 Freestyle and established a new record for the NVST. Iona still has work to do on the Butterfly. In the video below (no sound) of their competition in the 100 Individual Medley, you can see this kid in the silver cap leading in the Fly and Back stroke. Ionas come from behind started when he caught up in the Breaststroke at the final turn. They were even in Freestyle to the homestretch until the very end when Ionas kick propelled him to victory. A Very exciting swim to watch!!! Donate to Ionas cause when he swims 200 laps in his next Swim-A-Thon by clicking on the link below. teamunify/TUMoney.jsp?team=psnvst&memberid=210257&r=1411618984024
