In the winter of 1918, Paula and John Anderson mushed their dogs - TopicsExpress

In the winter of 1918, Paula and John Anderson mushed their dogs from Chulitna River over a pass one mile high into Mt. McKinley National Park, then barely a year old. They were headed for Kantishna country to prospect, but what they found encompassed the richness of the terrain and a priceless view of the Great One. When lode mining for silver and gold began, water from a creek draining Wonder Lake (pictured) was diverted to operate two hydraulic plants. John stated nine claims, looking for zinc. He also worked a trapline, hunted for subsistence, and raised foxes and sled dogs for sale. He and Paul also maintained a weather station and counted birds for the U.S. Biological Survey.
