In theory, as guests of PhilCon -- where we ( Steve Miller and Sharon Lee) are set to be the Principal Speakers for this years celebration -- we get to have some say in what we talk about for our big event. Now, weve been Guests of Honor before, and as Guests of Honor weve done things as varied as individual talks (in one case I did a kind of a long bio sketch about being in fandom & prodom for xty-x years), and sometimes our big thing was to let fans interview our characters, live on stage, and weve also done a side-order of all about cat whisker collecting at least once. Flexible, thats us. The thing is that the title Principal Speaker imbues what were to do with a little extra majesty -- and a conundrum. What can we do as Principal Speakers for the 78th anniversary of the worlds longest running SF convention thats worthy of the honor? We need to give the committee some idea of what our talk will be about. Sharons more at ease in a Q&A format -- and (as some of you know) Im willing to talk at length with or without the hat dropping though I fear Im not up to long perambulations about the current hot-buttons of fandom *or* pro-dom, since hot buttons change rapidly. Whats to be done? If you are planning on being there, or would like to be there and cant be but might be interested in hearing us later -- what do you think we, as Principal Speakers, might speak on usefully? I note -- we may or may not adopt your suggestion -- but thank you in advance for playing.
