In thinking about Robin Williams death from an apparent suicide, something that happened today took on a different meaning. I had another peer review by an insurance company. I was going to write jokingly about it, but now it doesnt seem so funny. They called for the review because I was seeing their insured in twice a week psychotherapy. Their guidelines only allow for that in the most extreme cases and, even then, only for a short time. So I presented this persons problems and the work we were doing in an honest but frankly hyperbolic manner, going as far to the extremes as possible. My peer reviewer seemed to listen and comment respectfully. Were we to get a reprieve from the no twice a week rule? I finished, there was a pause, my sympathetic reviewer noted the importance of the work we were doing, the difficult circumstances and, concluded: So youre okay with bringing it down to one time a week, right?
