In this Huffington Post blog, the author lists SHOW BOAT (which we just happen to be performing this August in Denver) as an opera that makes him proud to be an American. "This might spark debate because this piece walks the thin line between musical theater, operetta, and opera. There is no mistaking the overtly operatic nature of the vocal writing by Jerome Kern." Also mentioned is THE BALLAD OF BABY DOE, which originated at Central City Opera in 1956.
