In this experiment, I think both Socialists and Libertarians will find points they like. At the end of the day, what this man did is much more powerful (and much more exhausting) than relying on politicians to prohibit the goods or services some pressure group or other doesnt like. Yes, this is an attempt at autarchy; yes, this is fundamentally directed against international trade, and in that sense narrow-minded and possibly short-sighted (as people in the developing world would lose their jobs if all consumers behaved like this journalist). But it is about consumer choice, and about market mechanisms. So, so we approve, or dont we? I do. Reluctantly, I must admit.
