In this link.......About PAHAL, What we are doing, How you can help, Contact Details, Address for delivery of supplies/ relief material and Bank Account info. *********************************************** PAHAL - a small initiative by Vikrant Group of Institutions to help the children in flood effected areas get ‘Back to School’ Uttarakhand Floods this year killed thousands of people and destroyed hundreds of villages, homes, infrastructure, roads & lives of thousands of people. Among what is lost is also the future of thousands of children whose schools have been washed away. These students like our children equally deserve proper education and who are potential future doctors, engineers, businessman, professionals etc. need help is getting them ‘Back to School’. A small village school and children need don’t even have a books and stationary, school uniform, water bottles, umbrellas, tables chairs etc. A lot of children leave schools just because of lack of facilities and resources including school supplies and funds. Pahal can help some of these children with the necessary resources to get back to school. While efforts are on by government and non-government organisations to help Uttarakhand get back to normalcy, perhaps what also needs ‘urgent attention’ is Education of the future of Uttarakhand. This is a small initiative to help children in some of the affected areas get BACK TO SCHOOL. Everyone is welcome to join the initiative and help children of Uttarakhand get back to school. Together if we can rehabilitate even one school and help a few children - it would go a long way and could change the lives of these children who otherwise face uncertain and bleak future. What We Are Doing: • Collecting School Supplies which will be delivered directly to children/ school in the flood affected areas in Uttarakhand by volunteer students and faculty from VGI (Tentative departure in end of Sept 2013). • A team of students and faculty volunteers will travel to Dehradun from where they will try to reach the schools in flood affected areas and deliver the help directly. We thank one of the donors who have committed to arrange for the transportation of this team to Uttarakhand and back. • We are trying to assess any specific requirements by identifying a few schools. Currently school supplies (Books/Copy/Pen/Pencils/School Uniform/ Shoes/Shocks/ Bags) are welcome. Also URGENTLY needed are Winter Clothes (considering the approaching winter season). • Any contribution of school supplies can be delivered to our campus see addresses below)/ alternatively we can make arrangements to collect, where possible (please email us the details) • Contributions in cash/ check can be delivered directly to the School authorities/ administration and we will ensure full transparency so that the funds reach where they are meant for. These can be towards (1) School Fees of students (2) Rehabilitation of schools. So far: • Students, faculty and management of VGI have contributed and have been approached by donors for contributions in cash and kind. Initially we intended to deliver the cheque to the Relief Funds through local administration. However, a direct assistance to the needy along with student volunteers will be more useful and effective. • A Team of Volunteers is being formed (as of now students & faculty who are eager to help and motivate our fellow children in Uttarakhand). Team will leave for Uttarakhand (Dehradun) by end of Sept (depending on the rains) by bus. From Dehradun, they will try and reach out to the identified schools and children and deliver the resources collected and assist as Volunteers for a few days (where possible) and the motivate children. What is needed: • School Supplies for Children: School Bags, Note Books, Books (Old/ New), Stationery (Pen, Pencils, Boxes etc) • School Clothes for Children: Shoes, Socks, School Dress • Winter Wear for Children (URGENT): Pullovers/ Sweater, Mufflers/ Caps, Umbrella/ Rain Coats • Supplies for Schools: White/ Black Boards, Tents, Teaching Material/ Aid • Sponsor School Fees of poor students for a few months/ year - Fees could be around (INR 1000/- p.a. per child (to be confirmed)). This can be paid directly by you to the school/ child (we are finalising a few needy school and can give you contact details). Alternatively, you could join us in providing a lumpsum to the school (full details of receipts will be provided along with which detail of beneficiary, contact number etc) • Monetary Assistance / Funds directly to the school could help them buy the necessary equipmentWe are identifying a few schools in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi who need support and will provide information soon. (list of some schools as received from one NGO is given on this page). How one can help: - Those interested in joining then initiative can help in many ways: • Send required school supplies, clothes etc to our Collection Centre in Gwalior (alternatively, we can try and get these collected from your locations where possible). Kindly email us for any buck support and we will organise how best to arrange the collection/ delivery together with you. • Directly by the material from any ONLINE PROVIDER and get it delivered to our Collection Center. (some websites like flipkart, stationeryshop.in/, allschoolstuff/categories/school_uniform, etc). Pls let us know if you need more details or when you have placed any order so that we can confirm the receipt. • Sponsor a child by directly paying fees of the children to the school - This can be done by a cheque issued in favor of school (details of school/ children can be provided upon request). • Sponsor supplies to a school by directly paying to the school - This can be done by a cheque issued in favor of school (details of school can be provided upon request). Our primary aim is to ensure we have adequate school supplies & funds to effect some change and to rehabilitate some of the local children from the poorest backgrounds.
