In this video from the Conservation Congress last Sat. a man who believes the Penokee Mine will be environmentally safe, asks Larry Lynch about the new mining bill. LL explains a mining company will attempt to avoid direct impacts to streams, wetlands, and lakes and then the DNR will say, OK, youre going to have impacts, lets talk mitigation...LL says the DNR recongnizes mining projects are important and under a lot of scrutiny. The pro-miner then says he was really just wondering if there would be oversight by state experts. George Meyer (in the second video) explains the small streams of the Penokees and how the new law absolutely took protections for the waters away.
