In times of tragedy those of us in emergency services may find ourselves questioning our choice of profession. Why? Why do we work weekends and holidays? Why do we miss family events? Why do we enter that burning building, treat the injured or respond to any call for help? Why do we make this choice day after day, week after week, year after year? Although the answer may seem complicated, to those of us who serve in Emergency Services, it is quite simple. We have taken an oath to serve the community, fight to protect the innocent and those in need. (Robert J. Hoff) I for one will not stop that due to one mans thoughts and actions. I will continue to do my job, and help those who need, when they need. If these actions cost me my life, allow my family to know that I lived a good life, a righteous life, a life dedicated to making other lives better. If I have have given one mother one more day with her child, then I have succeeded. My payment is the satisfaction of knowing that we have helped. In our own small way, we made the difference. I weep for the families of the senseless shootings, Im glad that more were not hurt, and I pray that those who find him have clear sights and large bullets. Shooter, I suggest that you pray for the same, because if I find you with my hands, you will suffer worse than the rest of us. Amen.
