In traditional Western culture, its expected to spend the best - TopicsExpress

In traditional Western culture, its expected to spend the best years of your life slaving away (almost literally) in the hope that the last 10% of your life will be easy and relaxing. Im pretty sure there arent too many 80-year-olds who can travel the world, run on a beach, have an affair in Europe, or go sky diving. Pushing your dreams off into the very distant possible future means robbing yourself of happiness while youre still able to enjoy it. Dont be a social sheep and work your life away - do what you need to do to be happy, and forget trying to follow into the system. We need to stop modeling our lives after what was the only way fifty years ago. I, for one, refuse to fall in with the crowd and accept well thats how its gonna be, and you shouldnt either. I didnt attend a single college class, yet at 21 years old Im a homeowner with a respectable career, just like the baby-boomers did fifty years ago. I am designing my lifestyle around having freedom throughout my lifetime, not at its end. Every single person has the ability to do the same thing - with will-power and work-ethic, you can achieve it regardless of your background or up-bringing. People in my age group need to wake up and realize that there are other options besides willingly drowning in an excruciating long period of debt for a mere piece of paper that, contrary to their belief, is far from guaranteeing them any job whatsoever. Every kid from the last two generations has been told their entire lives that they must go to college to get anywhere in life, and that taking on massive debt is just how the game is played. Of course, that resulted in the current generations to decide that they need a college degree no matter what the cost. With unlimited demand, prices will keep going up. Unfortunately, until the Baby Boomers fade from this Earth, I dont see how any progress will be made - as long as they make up the overwhelming majority of government and corporate entities, we will generally continue to be their slaves. Theyve drilled it into our heads that we need to go to college, and that the people who dont are worthless. Remember, they are the ones hiring people and requiring college degrees for jobs that dont need one. The Boomers will undoubtedly be remembered as the most selfish generation in American history. They rolled back nearly all the progressive gains of their grandparents and parents and now they (we) are paying the price. But their reign of terror is not over. Its known fact that more than half of all Boomers do not have enough for retirement. Yet 10,000 retire every day. Food for thought.
