#InTheGarden, January 17, 2014. By Roger Sanderson. Theres still little color in the garden. To make up for it, nature provides other things! We have some unique birds residing here throughout the winter. Birders might be surprised that in our gardens resides quite a flock of Harris’ Sparrows, some White –throated and White-crowned Sparrows, and even a Spotted Towhee that occasionally makes an appearance! And of course there’s lots of the common residents like Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds, and the cheerful Carolina Wrens. The large flocks of Cedar Waxwings whistling overhead bring the garden alive while the garden itself seems otherwise! Surprisingly, even a Great Blue Heron frequently fishes in our pond (When he thinks no one is around). For a garden in the middle of the Big City, it’s impressive the number of avian visitors it attracts!
