Incensed will be the right word to describe exactly how i feel right now. I just saw on TV the governor of Niger state giving out 100 cars to jobless graduates at the sum N2.3M as part of the SURE-P programme. To me this is stupidity in astronomical proportions,of all the means to alleviate poverty and joblessness they chose giving out cars??? turning GRADUATES to mere drivers??? Tell me then the use of the knowledge that they acquired in the university,tell me the why all these people struggling to pass JAMB and PUME should even be bothered since when its all said and done drivers is what theyll become.How many of these graduate drivers will be able to pay the monthly installments of N60,000 as required by the scheme?When they fail to meet up what happens to the cars? I guess it becomes the property of the Government again.Imagine how many graduates would have benefited and had the opportunity to turn their lives and economic situations around if instead of this brazen show of intellectual ineptitude the government had given loans for small start-ups. There are so many youths out there with fantastic business plans but without the needed funds to set it off,go to the banks and they wont only refuse you funds but may end up killing your dreams.It is so saddening how apparent the corruption and the complete disconnect of the so called leaders has become,but still they treat it with complete indifference. I guess its somebodys turn to chop,so why should he care when all those before him had and used their opportunities to chop.Quite pathetic i must say,and it keeps getting worse.But then what can i do? I am just an observer watching time do its thing.
