Independent MP Andrew Wilkie has branded the live export deal a “dreadful development”, saying: “I recently called the federal government a pack of sadists when it comes to animal welfare. Turns out evil death cult would have been a better description as far as the live animal export trade is concerned.” The LNP is negotiating to send a million cattle to China by live export, boasting it will be worth 1$ billion. But it is better for farmers and related workers to keep the jobs here and export the meat. It is better for the cattle because China has no animal welfare regulations and the voyage itself is an unacceptable stress on the animals. Consider calling or writing to your federal MP to let them know you dont support sending our animals by live export, especially to countries with no animal welfare standards.
