India Peace Centre, an inter-religious centre for justice and peace initiatives, condemns the bomb blasts at Bodhgaya, Bihar with the strongest of feelings and deepest sense of concern for peace in the country. The series of bomb blasts on Mahabodhi Temple and Karmapa monastery, among the holiest places of Buddhists all over the world, and a UNESCO heritage site, on 7th of July 2013 that injured two monks, have potential to disturb communal harmony in the country as an attempt is being made by some observers and analysts to connect the attack to the communal unrest in the neighbouring country of Myanmar. India Peace Centre, expressing its solidarity with the Buddhists who are agonized and terrified by such spineless acts of a few antisocial people, appeals to all to maintain peace in the face of such an obnoxious incident and refrain from feelings of vengeance. We also appeal to the State Government and Union Government to investigate into the matter and ensure that perpetrators are booked and justice is upheld! All religions stand for peace but a few fundamentalists and religious fanatics pose potential threat to the secular fabric of a pluralistic nation like ours. Therefore, we also appeal to all the religious leaders to avoid mudslinging and to come together to defend justice and to build peace. At a time such as this, what the country needs are not slanderers but peacemakers! Kasta Dip Director India Peace Centre
