India has made phenomenal progress: Bill Gates Bill Gates, co-chair and trustee, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in an interview to a leading national daily said, India is winning its fight against poverty. Gates said the programmes initiated by the government of India have alleviated poverty. “These measures have helped eliminate famines, reduce malnutrition and illiteracy, and cut absolute poverty levels sharply — more Indians than ever before have the chance to live a healthy and productive life. This is phenomenal progress,” said Gates. Bill Gates said, India has set an example to the world by having no new case of polio in the last three years. In the last decade, Bill Gates said, India has also seen a reduction of HIV AIDS cases by 56%.
