India has proposed new standards for imported electronic gadgets, in which these imports have to comply with specified BIS certifications and also require all mobile phones to be tasted at local accredited lab from July 1(The deadline which has already been extended thrice). The US in yet another foul play, has officially raised this issue with the Govt of india, calling ut as a non tariff barier, as US feels it would undermine its electronics exports to India. Experts views are that many countries already have such standards in place and India needs to keep sub-standard goods out, so it is not that India should not have its own standards. Claiming it as Non Tariff Barrier by US is for its own exports and benefits. (ET)
