Indian Coast Guard Distributes Lifesaving Gears to Fishing Community Port Blair, Jan 6: The Coast Guard Region (A&N), is regularly conducting Community Interaction Programme with fisher community all along the A&N islands to integrate fisher folk in coastal security mechanism, to sensitise them to abide by the Fisheries Regulations and to be in possession of relevant documents while operating at sea. Also inculcated the safety consciousness amongst them to carry adequate communication and life saving equipment such as VHF sets, life jackets, life buoys, etc. The special Community Interaction at Junglighat in Port Blair was conducted in coordination with Shri Rehman Dy Director (Fisheries), A&N Administration on 06 Jan 14 and attended by over 100 local fishermen. During the Community Interaction, fisher folk were sensitised about the Coastal Security mechanism of the islands. The fishermen were advised to be vigilant and report all suspicious movements of ships and boats at sea to Indian Coast Guard and to be Eyes and Ears for security agencies. Special emphasis was also given to educate the fishermen on safety at sea. The use of safety equipment such as life jacket, life buoy, Distress Alert Transponders, etc., were demonstrated to them and they were advised to proceed for fishing in groups and carry valid documents in boats.
