Indias Foreign Office certainly needs to put its act together. By putting Modi in an embarrassing position by charting out a stopover in Germany just as the FIFA World Cup final was about to take place and with German Chancellor Merkel making it clear that the World Cup final was her priority and not her meeting with Modi, India has been left red-faced. One wonders why the stopover had to be in Germany and not some other friendly country? After all, there have been many foreign powers that have been vying for the opportunity of a bilateral with Modi so why diminish Indias importance by putting our PM on a spot? If Modi has realised what this means to his own and the countrys prestige internationally, I am sure some foreign office planners will surely be getting a tough time very soon.
