Indigenous Guatemalan women have, for the first time in history, brought charges against a Canadian mining company to a Canadian court for actions committed overseas, including rape and murder. Hudbay Minerals Inc. is facing a lawsuit from the women in the Ontario Superior Court for its violations against human rights in Guatemala. The indigenous women are seeking justice for the killings, shootings and gang rapes that occurred against them and other community members who were protesting mining activities. Hudbay has allegedly been pressuring the women to drop their case but they continue to push forward for justice.
