Individuals empowered by a contract, with no serious threat of accountability, cannot be expected to practice self-restraint. Recently the Supreme Court decided to continue its long tradition of characterizing corporations as individuals. This is a practice which began as early as the 19th century as a result of corporate lawyers playing word games. Im talking, of course, about the Hobby Lobby decision. The institution of the corporation was originally designed to shield individuals from liability for company activities. It was originally a very restrictive title held only by infrastructure-critical institutions. The barriers to entry were later lifted and now just about anyone can start their own corporation and begin receiving income while being protected from personal loss. It is privatization of profits and socialization of losses. Its called Lemon Socialism, and its why major corporations are evading taxes and behaving savagely. Theyre being given incentive to. Also, we should question why so many legal decisions are being made by the Judicial branch while Congress remains stagnant. Corporations have a b-line to the penal code.
