Indonesians in US start to vote The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | April 06 2014 | 3:03 PM Indonesians living in the United States began casting votes for the legislative election, the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Houston, US said in a statement. “The elections are being held simultaneously across America,” the KJRI Houston said as quoted byAntara news agencyon Sunday. In Houston, the polling station was open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. local time, on Saturday or Sunday Jakarta time. The Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) at the KJRI Houston setup one polling station for 784 registered voters while 3,754 others voted with absentee ballots. “Ballots that were sent out via the postal service beginning on March 27 have started arriving at the KJRI Houston. It is hoped that all ballots are received by the PPLN office before April 10,” said the consulate in a statement as quoted by kompas. PPLN chief Haroen Calehr praised Indonesian voters’ enthusiasm in Houston. Acting Indonesian consulate general in Houston, Isman Pasha, said Indonesians living abroad should exercise their voting rights for the sake of the nation. The KJRI Houston covers Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mississippi, Oklahoma,Tennessee, and Texas, as well as two US protectorates, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
