Indore , India World Environment Day Celebrated in Sanawadiya Sanawadiya June 5, 2013 Yesterday, World Environment Day Programme was organized by a group of local youths in Sanawadiya village at Giridarshan, the residence of veteran social Worker Dr. (Mrs). Janak Palta McGilligan, member of the Vigilance and monitoring committee of district Indore. The programme started with presenting a sappling of a SONAPATTI tree to a village boy on his 12th Birthday by the chief guest Mrs.Narmada Bai Choudhry,a local farmer. Janak McGilligan , the main speaker , made a Power point presentation in Hindi , on the World Environment Day theme Think Eat. Save. Reduce your footprints. She started with the introduction of UNEP ,its history starting from 1972,its objectives and background that the first World Environment day was celebrated on June 5,197 .She emphasized “ on making environment-friendly choices in lifestyle, attitude and practice , starting from onself. ,home, work and community.To conserve and save the environment is a spiritual responsibility. Environment can be saved by reuse, recycle and thinking about our relation with mother Earth, Nature and others .For example 25 percent of food is wasted, can be saved by simple practice of buying.cooking and taking what we need and not to cater to our greed .In order to make a healthy planet ,we should grow organic food, save water, plant more trees, use solar and Wind energy ,have biogas, use energy efficient technologies, look after and develop the flora and fauna and animals and birds .We can make all make difference ,individually as well as collectively .My husband Jimmy McGilligan. OBE , a British citizen made a choice to serve society left UK and worked towards environment unitl his last breath.We both decided to live a village after our retirement and now I am trying to serve from “ Giridarshan” a eco friendly life and it is blissful” Deepak Rawaliya, HemantDhakkad, Kapil, Mahender Dhakkad, Bharat Bhandari had expressed their views on how to make Sanawadiya a healthy community and save the environment by thinking and practicing eating local food, reducing plastic, growing organic food, use of solar energy and improve food habits by not using disposables, plastic and not to waste food. One young boy Aakash stood up and he said he will no more be eating junk food , Abhishek and Chetan said they will plant one tree and maintain it every monsoons in their life .Vinod Nagar, said they will now grow their own food organic . All the youths decided to share these ideas with their friends and families/, Small boy Divynash said he will never waste food.
