Inequality of Law Enforcement and Criminal Judicial System and Disparity of Minority Inmate in American Prisons In the past, the disparity of minority involvement in the Justice System for one reason or another, only took in consideration African Americans vs Whites. However the face of America has changed in the past decades and this is no longer the case. These days the disparity of minority involvement in the Justice System, includes African Americans, Latino Americans, other people of color and people of different ethnic background. Members of these minority groups are more likely to be arrested because their chances of being stopped by Law Enforcement is much greater than it is for White Americans. Law enforcement targets minority and poor neighborhood. There Are good people in law enforcement but there are also the cowards that dishonor their uniform. There should not be any room in Law Enforcement for Racism, because racists are the cowards that hide behind their uniform. Racists dishonor their uniform every time they assault or kill defenseless human beings because of the color of their skin. Everyday a minority person is assaulted or killed by a coward racist in Law Enforcement. The minority groups that seemed to be carrying the brunt of the Racism that exists in Law Enforcement, are Blacks and Latino. Blacks and Latinos have a higher chance of being stopped by law enforcement, searched, arrested and convicted. Many times their only crime is being a person of color. Added to this, many times is their inability to post bail or pay an attorney for their defense. This causes them to have to wait in jail and be at the mercy of Justice System, which appoints a Public Defender. The Public Defender, lacks the resources necessary to offer an adequate defense. The Public Defender and the prosecutor work for the same system, and work out plea agreements to avoid going to trial. The Prosecutor does not care if a person of color is innocent, he is only interested in winning another case so later on he can go work in a prestigious Law Firm. The Public Defenders is usually loaded with too many cases, therefore he has no time to study the case and defend anyone adequately. The Public defender encourages the defendant to take a plead offered by the Prosecutors, regardless of guilt or innocence. Most of the time, minority defendants have no other recourse than to take the pleas offered by the Prosecutor, due to the Criminal Justice System Failure to offer them an adequate and impartial defense. Racism exists in America,s Criminal Justice System well as in Law enforcement. The Criminal Justice System seems to be set up in a way that White defendants can get away with many crimes for which blacks, Latino and other minority are always sent to jail or prison. Any fair minded American can clearly see that there is a big difference in how the minority population is treated by Law Enforcement. Being a minority make one a target for Law enforcement. The Criminal Justice System and its manner of operation is the main cause for the disparity of minority inmate in American Prisons, not a higher rate of minority crime. The policies and procedures of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System need an overhaul. If we make those changes we will see the disparity that exists in minority inmate population in American Prisons.
