Influenza mutates extremely quickly which requires a new vaccine each year, but that might not always be the case. Some researchers are taking a new approach to vaccine development and will be targeting specific T-cells to initiate an immune response. Approximately 250,000-500,000 people die each year due to complications from the seasonal flu, so a universal vaccine has incredible implications.
