Information Taken From The App ALBERTS GUIDE TO THE FALLEN OF THE WESTERN FRONT Subject-Family Members to die in the War - Sub-Subject-Brothers - Died the Same Day 100 years ago today on the 25th Jan 1915 Pte 11742 Arthur and Pte 11743 Richard Follows was Killed in Action Aged 27 Both brothers enlisted at the same time and had consecutive Army Numbers. On the Medal Roll it states that their date of entry into the War was on 9th Jan 1915 a few weeks before they were killed. They were both born in Brownhills Staffordshire. In the 1911 Census Richard & Arthur were living with their parents at Sunny Bank Ansley North. Atherstone Warwickshire both working as Coalminers. On the 25th Jan 1915 the 1st Coldstream Guards were in Cuinchy - The War Dairy states that About 7am a German deserter came in and reported an attack imminent - The attack commenced as the deserter had said - an explosion of a mine in the trench held by No 4 Coy under Capt Campbell. The first line of trenches were rushed by the Germans - No 1 Coy on the embankment by the La Bassee Canal held its point and No 2 Coy held on to The Keep and Brickstacks and repelled the German attacks - The Scots Guards on our immediate right shared a similar fate but were able to maintain a stand at the Brickstacks. - Reinforcements of the London Scottish - Blackwatch and the Cameron Highlanders were sent up and a counter attack was made but it was found impossible to dislodge the Germans from the Front Trenches that they had taken Richard and Arthur are buried in adjacent graves at Cabaret Rouge Cemetery Souchez
