Information and Referral Specialist GENERAL SUMMARY: Reports directly to Information Services Supervisor. Provide information and referral and advocacy to persons requesting assistance and provide information about community resources, public, private and voluntary, within Southeastern Michigan. Screen/assess and schedule callers for programs and services. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Attend ongoing I&R trainings to remain current in the field. Learn and practice the AIRS (Alliance of Information and Referral Systems) standards. 2. Offer general information on health and welfare services. 3. Provide follow-up with clients as directed. 4. Work cooperatively with other Information and Referral agencies in order to establish linkages with community resources. 5. Maintain strict confidentiality both regarding clients, client files, agency materials and agency business. 6. Actively promote TIC programs and services through community outreach. 7. Act as liaison to persons misunderstanding the general policies and practices of The Information Center. Report all such inquiries, complaints or concerns from the public to the Supervisor within 24 hours of hearing or receiving notice of such. 8. Maintain knowledge of current regulations for programs the Information Service department operates. Knowledge of: •Basic needs, DTE. •Assessments, scheduling and data entry. •Local Human Service agencies. Ability to: •Investigate new and existing resources. •Remain calm with demanding callers. •Ability to handle high call volume. Education & Experience: •High school diploma with work/field experience. College a plus. •Crisis Intervention experience a plus. •Call center experience.
