Inge Auerbacher. a member of this group and child holocaust survivor, shares a memory of a past Yom Kippur : I shall never forget the YOM KIPPUR (our fasting day and DAY OF ATONEMENT) when the prayer AVINU MALKENU is sung. It I was 1944, and I was 9 years old, a prisoner in the Terezin concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.. I attended a makeshift service in an attic. Transports to the East (Auschwitz) were leaving almost every day. I remember the people singing this chant OUR FATHER OUR KING help us. They even fasted all day, put on their boots, and left for the train. Among them was my best friend Ruth, who was the same age as I. I shall never forget these brave souls as long as I live. That scene will never vanish from my eyes.
