Inibehe Effiong wrote Thieving Pastors on Rampage. The obvious reason why religious leaders and the church in particular cannot support popular resistance against the current rampaging cult of thieving ruling class is that they are an integral part of this cult of ruination and oppression in this country. Any thief can get away with his criminality using religion as an alibi. The hard truth is that a stoppage of corruption and looting of public funds in Nigeria will have an adverse impact on the growing criminal earnings of church leaders and ungodly donations to pastors as tithes, offerings, first fruit offerings, building donations, etcetera, etcetera. Do you know how much accrues to churches in this country after each sham call election? Riggers of elections and robbers of peoples mandate are now automatic candidates for thanks giving services to an unknown god. Who will chair all the fund raising services if all thieving politicians are sent to jail? Who will buy jets, jeeps and build exotic mansions for papa and mama GOs if those who loot the nation are brought to justice? The church in Nigeria provides a cover for destroyers of the nation. Pastors now compete with politicians in amazement of ill wealth. They live in primitive ostentation. These religious merchants care little about their poor congregation which they have successfully brainwashed and emasculated. We see these band of religious criminals going about committing all sorts atrocities in the name of God but we maintain a criminal silence. We dare not challenge their folly and utter barbarism so as not to incur the wrath of god. As far as we are concerned, these are anointed men of God who must never be touched. So they steal from us while we look away, they rape our wives, sisters and daughters while we leave everything to God, they connive with the looting political class to steal our resources while we sing and dance away our sorrows. Believe me, Karl Marx was right: religion is the opium of the people. Our mumu never do because we remain slaves in love with our chains.
