Inilabas na po ng Embassy ngayong araw na ito ang sulat para kay Mr. Bonolis upang iparating sa kanya ang sentimyento ng Embassy at ng mga Pilipino ukol sa episode ng kanyang TV show noong 19 October: Dear Mr. Bonolis, Your acts are insulting to the Philippines and its people. The Filipinos value their national anthem and hold it in such high regard that Philippine laws prohibit the use of the national anthem for amusement and entertainment. Regrettably, your actuations likewise show insensitivity to the sacrifices and hardwork of the Filipino community here in Italy, and their positive contribution to the Italian society. The Philippines has recently suffered the wrath of super typhoon Haiyan, and thus the news of your telecast now being circulated among Filipinos in social network could not have come at a more inappropriate time. Through this letter, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Rome wishes to signal its strong disapproval of this wounding depiction of Filipinos, and disrespect to their national anthem, which only served to broadcast a racial stereotype of our people in a nation which has otherwise been hospitable and appreciative of the honest and dedicated work of Filipinos. As you may know, Italian national and local leaders, families and individuals have stated, and continue to recognize, that Filipinos are among the most integrated and trusted members of foreign communities in Italy.
