Initial breakthrough in Pachaspura killing POLICE ARREST THREE; IDENTITY OF KILLERS ESTABLISHED Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the discovery of nine bodies in Pachaspura under Chumukedima ‘A’ on January 3, has achieved a breakthrough following the arrest of three suspects that has led to identification of those allegedly involved in the massacre. Revealing this through a press communiqué, Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland said the SIT also recovered the vehicle used to commit the crime besides other incriminating evidences and items. The DGP revealed that through sustained interrogation of the three arrested, the identity of the alleged perpetrators of the crime has been established. The DGP however said, that those allegedly responsible for the killing have been evading arrest at the moment and maintained that all efforts were on to arrest them. DGP stated that any particulars/details of the ongoing case could not be disclosed at present, due to the sensitive nature of the case as it could only hamper further investigation. It may be recalled that the state government had constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of Liremo Lotha, IPS, DIG (Range/NAP) Kohima as team leader; Watichuchang Jamir, Addl. SP, Dimapur; Relo Aye SDPO, Dimapur and UBI Kevisebeilie, OC Diphupar PS as members. SIT was tasked to investigate all aspects of the case and submit the report and submit supervisory note to the DGP on a regular basis for monitoring the progress of the case. The case was registered under Diphupar Police Station. Also, the state government had constituted a three-member High Power Enquiry Committee (HPEC) to probe into the recovery of nine bodies from Pachaspura area, Chumekedima on January 3. The HPEC comprised of K.N. Chishi, secretary justice and law as the convenor; T. Roy, joint secretary (home) and Vikiye Kenye, DC, commissioner’s office as members. The terms of reference for the HPEC were to enquiry into: a) motives and reasons for the murder and circumstances leading to the commission of such heinous crime; b) Whether the crime is the handiwork of individuals, groups of people or organizations; c) the identity of the perpetrators of the crime; d) the identity of the mine deceased persons and e) suggest remedial measures to ensure such incidents do not occur in future. It may also be pointed out that the government of Assam, on January 5 had decided to ask the Centre and the Nagaland government for handing over the case either the CBI or National Investigation Agency (NIA). Even before the probe and enquiry panels had begun work, the Naga Rengma Hills Protection Force (NRHPF) speaking to an Assam based newspaper on January 6, claimed responsibility for the killing of the nine persons whose bodies were recovered from Pachaspura area near Chumukedima. NRHPF said the killing was a retaliatory action of the armed outfit against the rival KPLT group after killing of four persons of Rengma community and rendering several hundred homeless. veral hundred homeless.
