Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raajioon. Few people in life are - TopicsExpress

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raajioon. Few people in life are blessed with a funeral that brings together an entire community- the young, teenagers, elders women and neighbours. One such funeral took place earlier today, that of Brother Qadeer or Qads as he was fondly nicknamed by his loved ones. As I pulled in to Ashton to attend the funeral just before Zohr Salah this afternoon...all the streets for about a mile around the Ashton Katherine street mosque were completely full- in the Masjid itself, hundreds attended if not well over a thousand people at short notice with barely room to stand. It took about 40 mins for all the men to pay their respects as his body lay in the Masjid prior to taking him to the graveyard- where I am told hundreds also turned up. Br Qadeers death took many by surprise; partially because he was only a 38 year father of four young children, but also because many in the community who knew him hadnt realised that he had been suffering with cancer for the last 6 years. From those that described him, he was always laughing, joking and smiling. His sisters and mother spoke of how he had prepared them all not to grieve for him and to make dua for him. How his answer to everything was simply...Alhamdulillah- all praise be to God. His passing is a stark reminder again that death does not discriminate against age. Allah swt clearly took back someone special. His young son- only 10 helped wash his father. A heavy responsibility lies on him as the oldest of his siblings- may God have mercy on him and guide him and the rest of the family through this test...Ameen One thing that was noted during this funeral and something I often see is how some people are not very respectful of the solemn nature of a funeral and use this opportunity to gossip with others in the community talking loudly and clearly not take into account the wishes of the grieving family. We must be mindful of the correct adaab or etiquette when attending a janaza and leave unnecessary idle chit chat for outside the mosque. I do not apologise for asking people to keep their talk minimal and to respect the rights of the family to mourn their loss without community gossip. May Br Qadeer rest in peace, be raised amongst the most righteous in Jannat ul firdous, and his family be granted patience and fortitude at this extremely difficult time...Ameen Please remember this family in your prayers.
