Insecurity: 100 Immigration Officers Deployed To Sokoto As a result of the porous borders between Nigeria and the Niger Republic, the Nigeria Immigration Service has deployed 100 Officers of the newly introduced Border Guards Corps to Sokoto State. The newly introduced guards who are to among other things, ensure the safety of the borders with regards to the ravaging insecurity in some parts of the north, will also curb the menace of human trafficking and other related crimes. It would be recalled that there are countless illegal entrance and exit points the two countries. Speaking for the NIS, Comptroller Yunusa Aliyu stated that the deployment of additional 100 men to the hardworking 500 officers already on ground would ensure the sustainability of the existing peace and control crime in the state. Aliyu who insisted that his men are on the red alert against any act of bringing illegal firearm into Nigeria, also noted that the command has increased its border patrol team and checkpoints in addition to the advance vigilance. He further informed that the immigration headquarters recently provided state of the art communication facilities at the Illela border in Sokoto in addition to the three patrol vans it gave the state which are currently in use.
