Insert 42 Sbhanxa ndini somntana, thats what he called me, isibhanxa. I sat there, containing my anger, disappointment and anything inbetween. I had to keep cool, because I didnt want Silusapho to pick up on any bad vibes around the house. Silu and Ndalo walked down the stairs, with Silu carrying Monwabisis laptop. Silu: hayke bhuti, umama ka Ndalo uyafouna. We have to go ngoku. Me: oh okay, nam ndihamba nani, well take a cab. Silu: a cab? Haybo kodwa iimoto zimbini apha? Me: cabs are more exciting. Let me go and get my bags, sihambeni. Silu: okay. I went to my room and took my luggage, Monwabisi placed everything on my bed. I took them and walked out. Monwabisi was back in the living room, with Ndalo and Silusapho. Silu: undincedile ngale laptop tata. Monwai: its only a pleasure, mntanam. Silu: my friends are gonna be soo jealous. She giggled.. Monwai: hahaha, Im sure they will. Silu: haybo bhuti? Imithwalo iyaphi? Monwabisi turned to look at me, his smile faded away as he saw my bags.. Me: ndiya pha kowenu Silu. Silu: why? Me: what do you mean why? Andinoya ngoku kwa bhutThami? Silu: thats not what I mean, qha awufane uye uphethe imithwalo. Me: okay. Monwai: uyahamba? I nodded.. Monwai: haybo? But sizakubuyela kwa gqirha for the results. Why uhamba? I didnt think he was being serious. I kept quiet.. Silu: so are we taking a cab? Monwai: a cab? He looked at me. Me: yes Silu, were taking a cab. Monwai: kwenzeka ntoni na apha? Me: let me call a cab. I took my phone out, Monwai walked up to me and took my phone, like, he snatched it out of my hands. Me: can I have my phone back? I spoke through my teeth.. Monwai: no, awuhambi. Kuhamba uSilusapho no Ndalo. Me: ndiyahamba, and you are not going to stop me, tata. Monwai: you cant run away, stick around. Be a man Sphesihle and stop running away everytime life throws a challenge your way. I kept quiet. Silu: whats going on? Niyaxabana? Monwai: what? No, singaxabana njani? Sphesihle is my right-hand man. He patted my back. I really had to keep calm, no matter how I felt. I had to keep it together. Ndalos phone rang again.. He picked up, and we all kept quiet.. Ndalo: mama? Siyeza mama, sihamba notata ka bhutSihle.. Okay mama, bye. Haha, utata ka bhuti.. He hung up. Ndalo: we really should get going. Silu: umazala wam uyathanda uba njalo ke yena. Ndalo and Silu laughed. Monwai: mandinigoduse ke. Me: can I have my phone back? Monwai: oh yes, ina. He handed me my phone. Silu: bye ke bhuti, ngoku uzayithini le mithwalo ingaka? Me: bye Silu. I hugged her and they left. I sat on the couch, waiting for them to drive off so I could leave too. After a few minutes, I used my phone to google cabs and called one. It arrived and I walked out. We packed everything in his boot and we drove off.. I directed him to Thamis place. Driver: thatll be 150 Rands. Me: sure. I took my wallet out and looked for the money he requested, and handed it to him.. Driver: thanks. Me: mmhhm.. He parked outside, Monwabisi was still there, his car was still parked outside. Me: uhm, thanks. I stepped out of the car and he opened the boot for me. I took my luggage out and he drove off.. I took a deep sigh, staring at Thamis house. I really didnt have the energy to face Monwabisi. I carried my luggage in, and knocked on the front door. Sino came to open for me. Sino: Khuthsununu? Ubekwa yintoni apha? Me: haha, khayeke maan sis Sino. I gently pushed her to the side and walked in.. Sino: Im just surprised. Noo Silu basandongena ngoku. Me: mmhmm.. I walked in and went to sit on the couch, greeting Thami and Sino.. Thami: unjani? Awunqabe. Me: ndiyaphila, unjani wena? Thami: nam ndi right. Monwabisi was staring at me the whole time. Me: ndidiniwe qha. I need to lie down a bit. Sino: haybo, wafika sewudiniwe, whats up? Me: ndidiniwe nje, ininzi into eyenzekayo. Sino: oh, okay ke. I got up .. Monwai: Sphesihle, ndicela uhlale phantsi. Me: ndizakubuya, I have to put these away.. I went to the spare room and closed the door behind me. My phone beeped, with an incoming text from Monwabisi and it read as so are you going to show the world that we are fighting?.. I didnt reply, I wasnt fighting with him.. I didnt even want to fight. I sat on the bed and played music on my phone. Somehow, I felt the walls of life closing in on me. Like, why would Monwabisi turn from good to bad with a blink of an eye? Was it that easy for a person to change? Or maybe it was just time for him to reveal his true colours. Thami walked in, later.. He came to sit next to me. .. Thami: whats going on? Me: mmhhm? Thami: Sihle, kwenzeka ntoni? Me: akho- Thami: hay nonsense maan, uyathanda ukuthi akhonto wena ibe ikhona. Me: hehe, okay fine. My dad and I had a little conflict. Thami: what exactly happened? Me: inde, but he said some stuff.. Thami: what stuff? Me: stuff.. Look, I dont wanna talk about this, please. Thami: okay ke, youre welcome apha. Ungahlala apha for as long as you like. Me: thanks. Thami: pleasure.. He got up.. Thami: unpack ke. And make yourself comfortable.. Me: okay sure, thanks hey. He walked out. I felt at home. Thami and Sino didnt have the biggest house and the fanciest car you can ever think of, but the warmth and love they offered me was enough.. Love doesnt have to be about material things. Flashy cars and big houses dont define people, their hearts and souls do. I had fun at Thamis place, things were going well and Monwabisi decided to keep away, I assumed he was giving me time to cool off. I woke up the day we were going to get the medical results and went to take a bath. When I was done, I got dressed. I really didnt know who was taking me and my pastor to that doctor, and I didnt ask anyone. I got dressed and made my bed. Thami walked in.. Me: hehe, people never knock maan apho ndilala khona. Thami: hay maan, khawyeke. I smiled.. Thami: utata wakho uyeza. Hes running a little late. I nodded.. Thami: are you still mad at the guy? Me: no, Im not mad at anyone. Thami: okay ke, bendizakusa ngokwam mtshana, qha Im going to work. Me: its okay, I understand. I finished making my bed and we went to the kitchen, for breakfast. Sino was making lunch boxes. Sino: sleepy head. Awuvuke, inguwe wonke. Thami laughed.. Me: ndivuka ukufa kanti mna. You just never noticed. Sino: okanye ubalulekile lo mntu uya kuye nhe? Uvuka ngoo 12 kalok wena. I laughed. We had breakfast, the kids joined us too.. Later, they all left and I waited for Monwabisi. He arrived at around 8 and called me.. I saw it was him and picked up.. Me: uuh, hello? Monwai: son, ndilapha phandle. Me: okay. I hung up and took my wallet, locked up and walked out, they left me a spare key. I stepped into the car and greeted, he greeted back.. Monwai: unjani? Me: ndi right, wena? Monwai: nam ndi right. He started his car and drove off.. We drove in silence for a while, listening to Jazz music the whole way to my pastors house.. We got there and I called him. He walked out of the house, I moved from the front seat to the back seat, for him to occupy the front seat. Then we drove off.. We got there, Zipho and her side of the union were already there, waiting for us. We greeted and they greeted back, shaking our hands the formal way.. Ziphos pastor: besesime ngani ke apha. My pastor: siyaxolisa kakhulu, itraffic apha ksasa iba njena. Ziphos pastor: siyayiqonda, yilonto ke thina sivuka kwaksasa. We kept quiet.. Ziphos pastor: masesingeneni ke, Im sure no gqirha sethe nqa ukuba siphi ngoku. Monwabisi waited with Ziphos parents while we went into the consultiing room with our pastors. We knocked and the doctor invited us in.. We walked in.. Exchanged greetings and sat down. Doc: the medical results are back, as promised. We all looked at him.. Doc: here, I have everything documented down, since you said you wanted it all in writing. My pastor: thank you doctor. The doctor handed us the Brown envelope.. Doc: Siphesihle and Zipho are both medically fit. Siphesihle does however have a little case of iron deficiency. But, its nothing to get all worked up about. Ill give him supplements to boost his iron levels and he will be good to go, in no time. Iron what? My eyes widened.. Me: uhm, so what causes that iron thingy? Doc: iron deficiency, it is mostly caused by inadequate dietary intake, chronic blood loss, inability to absorb or properly use iron. There are many other causes out there, but those are just the common causes. Me: so, will I be okay? My pastor held my hand, trying to calm me down. Doc: I will give you supplements to boost your low levels of iron. But you need to be regularly checked. We have to ensure that your supplements are effective. Me: oh okay. I swallowed.. Doc: another thing you should take into serious consideration is your diet. Me: my diet? I eat healthy stuff. Doc: what kind of healthy stuff? Me: uhm, veggies, fruit. You know, healthy stuff like that. Doc: okay, you need to make sure you eat iron-rich foods. I will refer you to a dietician, he will give you the kind of diet you should stick to, and he will monitor your progress as much as I will monitor it too. I nodded, feeling defeated. Doc: but other than that, you kids are healthy. He gave me the supplements. We thanked him, my pastor took the Brown envelope and we walked out. We got to our parents.. Monwai: bahambe njani? Ziphos pastor: bahambe kakuhle, qha uSiphesihle kuthwe une iron deficiency. My pastor: inoba wopha kakhulu na lo mntana kula ngozi wayeyifumene? Ngoba kuthethwe nangokopha kakhulu phaya. Monwai: uhm, lets not go back to that moment. Bamnikile isupplements ke? My pastor: ewe, bamnikile. Ne business card ye dietician ikwalapha kule envelope. Kuzofuneka aye kuyo ke. Monwai: okay, well call and set an appointment.. We walked out.. Zipho walked next to me, while the others walked a little behind us, discussing whatever they were discussing.. We didnt chat, we just walked next to each other, like total strangers.. Before we got to where they parked their car, Zipho pulled a low toned Sihle?.. I looked at her.. Zipho: dont worry about this iron deficiency. Okay? Me: yeah. Im not worried, Im just- Zipho: you dont have to act tough around me. I kept quiet.. Zipho: we will fight this iron thing together, as a family.. I smiled, my heart smiled too.. I knew she wasnt really supposed to say stuff like that to me before the wedding day. But can you blame her? She was reassuring her man.. At that point, I wished we could hug. I needed her arms around me, to blend well with the words she just uttered. But, it was not gonna happen, we had to wait a little longer..
