Inside MusiCast ‘Pick Of The Day’: “’65 Love Affair”, by Paul Davis. Paul Davis made some major changes in 1981 for his Arista album release titled “Cool Night.” For starters, this was his first release on the Arista label, but musically speaking he incorporated synth and drum machines into his to his typical soft rock, country-tinged tunes from his previous records. The title track “Cool Night” was the biggest hit off of the record and enveloped a more subtle use of synth. However, this shift toward the then more modern approach can be heard most noticeably in the song “’65 Love Affair”. Listening to it now, it’s easy to pinpoint the exact era in which the song was released, but nonetheless is does contain Paul Davis’ wonderful vocal harmonies that were part of his signature. The music itself was simple and straightforward, but it had a fun, doo-wop groove that helped capture the essence of reminiscing about those fond memories of high school back in ’65. (Rick)
