Inside Out | Press Release AIDAN MARTIN LAUNCHES DEBUT ALBUM Inside Out is the debut studio album by Aidan Martin to be released on August 25th. The launch will be followed by a series of concerts around Gauteng to promote the album. Although this is Martin’s solo debut, he is no stranger to the stage and studio, having played for nearly a decade alongside his brother, the well-established guitarist Johnathan Martin, with whom he recorded the album In My Blood (2007) and Machete (2010). The duo will soon be releasing a live recording. Inside Out is the musical expression of Aidan Martin’s personal growth as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter over the years. The album translates rock within a blues dialect with a musical maturity that is at the same time driven by a particular youthful energy. This results in songs laden with relentless riffs (tracks like “Inside Out”, “Lost and Found”, “Five Twenty Nine”), haunting melodies (“Tired of the City”, “Years Gone By”), upbeat rock ‘n roll numbers (“Weather Girl”, “Feels So Good”) and intricate guitar wizardry (“Farka Touré Blues”). Amidst a worldwide sea of blues rock offerings, Aidan Martin’s skilful versatility allows him to stand out as an uncompromising guitarist and songwriter. On this album he spews out the blues with uncanny capability and drive. The title track, “Inside Out”, was the last song he wrote and recorded for the album. “The song moves into a different direction,” says Martin. It is an unpredictable song in which Martin’s frantic guitar work surprises and marvels the listener. Another track that could suggest a future musical direction for Martin is “Farka Touré Blues”; a homage to bluesman Ali Farka Touré and West-African blues. Martin’s remarkable execution of the West-African blues tradition, which has also informed his guitar playing, affirms his deep understanding of blues and his capacity to compose. Inside Out should delight and surprise keen fans of blues and rock across the board. The album was recorded and engineered by Lanie van der Walt and co-produced by Martin and Van der Walt at Wolmer Studios. The musicians are Aidan Martin (vocals, electric guitar, twelve-string guitar, mandolin, harmonica), Benjamin Georgiades (bass guitar) and David Georgiades (drums). Additional musicians on “Farka Touré Blues”: Lanie van der Walt (double bass) and Ravi Lalloo (tablas).
