Inspired by Renaldo Keene, I’m posting an oldie favorite of mine. Fifty-one years ago (!), this song entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It is reportedly the favorite song of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Brian tells a story about being in his Corvette on a date when he first heard the song on the radio. It struck him so much, he said immediately pulled over, told his date to keep quiet, cranked up the volume and listened, mesmerized by the “wall of sound” and that infectious beat. “Don’t Worry, Baby” was reportedly inspired by it. The lead singer, then Ronnie Bennett, was 15 years old when it was recorded. And if you’ve seen the Ronettes in any old footage, or the video for Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight”, you know that nobody—but NOBODY—can mince like Ronnie Spector. It’s one of my all-time favorites. I still smile every time I hear it. Written by Jeff Barry and the legendary Ellie Greenwich. https://youtube/watch?v=jrVbawRPO7I
