Inspirited BY EASTBREKKIE, YOUR BREAKING RECIPES FROM THE EAST on JULY 25, 2013 • ( 0 ) Music and CD Reviews Review - Music and CD Reviews - Picture02 Review - Music and CD Reviews - Picture01 Inspirited by Matthew Quek Some 20 years ago, Singaporean Broadway singer, Matthew Quek, was persuaded by his schoolmates to join his secondary school’s inaugural choir club. Bored of the constant inactivity which plagued the drama club he was part of, Quek made the inevitable switch to choir. As the age-old adage goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side,” Quek quickly discovered a lesser known talent of his: singing. What we like: Inspirited is Quek’s sixth album. Soulful and brimming with an uncommon musicality, the record itself epitomizes everything an individual would face while on the road to success; from anxiety and trepidation to happiness and joy. Despite recording five albums (and with the help of famous homegrown musicians Jeremy Monterio and Tama Goh!) prior to Inspirited, Quek considers this album to be his personal best. Don’t ask why, but highlights [of this record] include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘All I Ask of You,’ and ‘Music of the Night,’ Josh Gorban’s ‘You Raise Me Up,’ and a couple of Quek’s compositions. Inspirited is in the simplest of words a great success; every number on this record feels incredibly pleasant to the listeners’ ears. Quek clearly knows when and how to employ the right vocal technique that would highlight his superior vocals. If you’re a great fan of Broadway musicals and operatic music touched with jazzy tunes and can’t get enough of John Raitt and Robert Goulet’s singing, this is the perfect album to grab. Where to find: Inspirited is available at all major CD shops island-wide.
