Installment No. 8 - recording artists affected by pancreatic cancer: Robert Rimato a/k/a Robert Hazard is perhaps most famous for writing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, which Cyndi Lauper recorded and turned into a hit. He had his own new-wave-era band, though, Robert Hazard and the Heroes, which performed primarily in the Philly area, and got MTV facetime with hits Change Reaction and Escalator of Life. After 2000, Hazard turned to country music, which he claimed was a first love. He was signed to a label and put out a country album in 2007. He died the following year -- on August 5, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following surgery for pancreatic cancer. He was 59 years old.
