Instead of taking the #ALSIceBucketChallenge because I became sick - TopicsExpress

Instead of taking the #ALSIceBucketChallenge because I became sick last night, I will be donating to the cause to support further research and clinical trials and medications to help those who currently suffer from or will suffer from this disease in the future. Because I do believe in the effort behind the original intent of the Ice Bucket Challenge. It brought awareness to the name of the disease. It was catchy. It was fun to call out your friends and family. It brought in more donations than ever before recorded for the same time frame in previous years. However, how much did anyone really learn about ALS or why this exposure and monetary donation were so important. I will be the first to stand and say I was ignorant to this disease and all it entails because I was blessed to never have it touch my life in such a way. As for my challenge to my friends and family, if you have already participated or not, (or even people who arent because I am making this particular post public to broaden the reach) Im calling you all out. Every. Last. One. Of. You. I am calling out your check books for whatever amount is comfortable to you and I am calling you out of your time. To take a bit of your time to educate yourself to this disease and the severity of it, just as I have now done. My challenge is a bit of a tough one. It will require you to take some time out of your daily routine to see why this challenge was so important but can be done in the comfort of your own home. What is ALS, what does a person with ALS go through? And what does the family and friends of someone with ALS go through? So my challenge, along with giving a monetary donation in an amount you are comfortable giving to the cause is to simply sit down and watch these two videos. And when you are finished I would like for you to do two things to complete this challenge because along with the monetary donation the real beneficial thing that people are doing by participating in my spin off is spreading real awareness and information about this terrible and widely unknown disease. Just like lupus and my moms small cell carcinoma and my fathers leukemia, there are no known cures. However people with ALS do not even have anything to help them at all really. A pill that may prolong your life expectancy by three months when your diagnosis from onset is already a mere 3-5 years. Just let that alone sink in for a moment.... When you have taken time out of your day to watch these two videos, I would like for you to simply state completed and shared in the comments section and I would like for you to share this post on your wall to expand the outreach. They have started out right by getting the word out with the ice bucket challenge going viral, now lets get the word out about why it was so important for them to do so. I thank you for your time and consideration, Stephanie L. Carpenter youtu.be/tr6jFySacFQ youtu.be/KDJwxaMQlcU
