Intellectism. Our weird relationship with intelligence, and why we need to stop saying «stupid» as an insult. Intelligence is a cultural fetish, at least in my culture. It is overrated and underrated at the same time, by people who may or may not have it in large quantities and have no idea what it is. It is still unclear, to this day, what intelligence is. Unclear if the intelligence types really participate to a common relevant property, or if it is merely an attempt to say something along the lines of «everyone is intelligent, in their own way». And if its the second hypothesis, then thats misguided and wrong. I am not going to try to define intelligence, because, sure enough, Id define it in such a way that Id have lots of it. Because no-one wants to be the stupid one. And this takes us to my point. If women are constantly taught that women are less intelligent than men - however false that may be - it is not a good idea to waste time and energy debunking that prejudice. Because even the stupidest woman deserves respect. NJM
