Intelligence community says it forgot $4 billion in its budget The intelligence community says it forgot to include $4 billion in its April budget announcement, and that it will actually need $52.2 billion in 2014. In a statement Thursday afternoon, the Director of National Intelligence released what it called an “updated budget figure” that includes the $4 billion boost. “The amount of $48.2 billion excluded funding required to support overseas contingency operations. That disclosure is now updated to include funding requested to support overseas contingency operations,” the DNI said in the statement. For years, even the top-line budget number of the government’s intelligence agencies was considered classified, but following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon, Congress called for the total to be released. But breakdowns are still not given out. The $52.2 billion figure is down slightly from last year’s figure of $52.6 billion.
