Intelligent Edo people please read what BEDC has to say concerning the fixed charge, we have been fooled for a long time: Did you get any reason why they exploit us of N750? The Managing director and Chief executive of BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu tsays the “N750 fixed charge is not a Benin Vigeo issue and that it affects all segments of the society. Mrs. Osibodu said “it is everybody and everybody is deducting it and it is even in the website. It has been on before now, it is not new but recently heard it used to be N500 and was increased to N750”. The BEDC boss explained that the controversial charge may be increased to N1, 500 this year, stressing that the amount represents the capacity charge on customers for transmission supplied by Genco transmission firm to the BEDC. According to her “It is a capacity charge; you know we take supply from the transmission and transmission also takes supply from Genco. So the N750 is like capacity charge. In other words for making that power available and having that capacity to make it available”. “So once you are connected to us you pay back fixed charge every month. It is just like an aspect payment but using electricity. But when you don’t have power at a certain time you are not authorized to be charged. If we don’t have supply and we get a feed back that will be refunded, it depends on a period of time not one month”. The management of BEDC pointed out that, “For instance, you have continuously loss of supply for about two, three months that will be refunded. But don’t forget I said that it is the billing system that is distributed, we don’t any technology to monitor…; so some of those things you cant even monitor who is getting light and who is not getting light in a consistent way to be able to eliminate until those investments are done you can see clearly”. “So when there are issues I am aware that there are customers that once you know they are falling outside what is the requirement, I enjoin you to go on the net and website and even write about it what the requirement is and asked the public to know about that requirement and when we violate you get back to us”. She explained that “The website of NERC highlights how these things will change every year. So we have an Ikeja Disco that is currently at N750 in 2013. By 2014 it goes to N875. Then you have Port Harcourt who is currently at N700. So you are right it’s not the same figure. And by 2014 it goes to N1, 050 and for Benin contrary to, it was in 2012 that it was N500, it has been N700 since 2013. And by this year it is supposed to go to N1, 500”. “Again, understand the importance of fixed charge, transmission has to do work, the generating company to make capacity available”, the BEDC boss stated.
